GIFTEDSPACE
Text...
I love language.
Confession time: I read Dickens and Shakespeare for the love of the sound of the words.
But what do you do with a child who has a hugely rich inner life and does not have the language to express it?
This could be your child.
Not every gifted child is gifted in language. They may not have any slap-a-label-on-it issue. But there may still be a huge gap between their inner world and their ability to express themselves.
Have you ever washed your hands for Hamotzi and then been desperate to tell someone something before you eat?
How would it be to feel like that all the time?
When you see a child who appears to get frustrated easily, take a minute to consider whether they are finding it hard to express themselves.
They may find language difficult.
Their brains may work faster than their tongues.
They may find emotional expression challenging.
It doesn’t matter.
The common denominator is that they are FRUSTRATED.
You can help your child by:
Creating a feelings chart
Letting them draw what they are thinking
Teaching them to slow down their speech by using a metronome.
Three very different techniques. All worth a try.
